Shane Byrne is a former professional rugby player, rugby pundit, TV personality, company director and sometimes actor.
His notable rugby acheivements include, 41 caps for the Irish rugby team(2001 - 2005) and as a member of the 2005 British & Irish Lions squad which toured New Zealand.
He is known in the rugby world as 'Munch' or 'Mullet' due to his now famous long hair which is styled in a 1980's mullet.
A native of Aughrim, County Wicklow, Shane attended the famous Blackrock College in south county Dublin and plied his trade for many years at Leinster developing his chosen position as hooker (2)
In 2001 he won his first Irish international cap against Romania, and through a string strong of performances, soon became a fixture at number 2 in the Irish rugby team.
During his spell with the senior team Byrne scored 3 tries and had numerous stand out performances.
One of his finest professional rugby achievements was his selection for the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand in 2005, playing in 2 out of 3 test matches.
After his international career ended Byrne signed a 2 year contract with Saracens after which he returned to Ireland to finish his competitive rugby career with Blackrock college RFC as captain for 2 seasons.
Following his professional rugby career and his return to Ireland, Byrne joined the family business as company director and began to make more and more regular appearances as a rugby pundit on Irish TV and Radio.
